Consumers recognise that health information is key in planning services that meet Australians’ health requirements and need to be confident that their health data is secure and their privacy protected.
Primary Health Insights puts the privacy of patients’ health data first. The steps to protect patient privacy and give patients control of their data within the platform include:
patient consent is requested by their general practice to share their de-identified (anonymous) data with their PHN.
PHNs use of only de-identified general practice patient data. Patient data cannot be combined with other data to re-identify patients. Data management techniques, such as suppression of data for small populations are additional safeguards.
the Primary Health Insights Governance Framework precludes patient data being used for commercial purposes or accessed by anyone outside of the Primary Health Insights platform participation.
this governance framework, and the platform’s security measures, provide the highest level of protection for patient data for all participating PHNs.
